A day of golf, fundraising, and community spirit

The Ellis Edwards Foundation launches with its inaugural Charity Golf Day

Inspired by the extraordinary courage of Ellis Edwards, the Ellis Edwards Foundation is proud to announce its inaugural Charity Golf Day, taking place on Thursday 11th September 2025 at the scenic Ferndown Forest Golf Course. This landmark event marks the beginning of a powerful journey – one that honours Ellis’s legacy through acts of kindness and collective action for children and families in the BCP area.

Our Mission: Offering a glimmer of light during your darkest days

Founded by Ellis’ parents, Carly and Eddie in 2025, The Ellis Edwards Foundation aims to ease the emotional burden of childhood bereavement by offering accessible, inclusive, and therapeutic experiences. Through grief breaks, counselling, and community connection, the foundation helps children and their families to process loss, build resilience, and rediscover moments of joy, together.

Through their own heart-breaking experiences, they had a vision to bring light, comfort, and emotional healing to children grieving the loss of a parent or sibling to cancer, through compassionate support and meaningful respite.

Fundraising events, like the Charity Golf Day on the 11th September, enable the foundation to provide the support and experiences to children in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

Why this event matters

Funds raised from the ticket sales, silent auction and supporters raffle will directly support the Foundation’s initiatives.

Since Ellis’ passing, his parents realised that the provision for children left behind by the loss of a sibling or parent to cancer is hugely under supported.

Ellis’ mum, Carly shared that “…our experience has shown us that children need to be able to talk about their traumatic experience to be able to cope, moving forward. Our aim is to help children see a glimmer of light during their darkest days.”

The Foundation is already supporting bereaved children with days out, family trips and the opportunity to enjoy time together to recharge and process their emotions. The Charity Golf Day will raise the profile of the foundation and help raise critical funds to support more children and their families. This event is more than a day on the green – it’s a day for supporters to assemble and join the incredibly important mission of The Ellis Edwards Foundation.

A Parent’s perspective

Ellis’s parents, whose strength and vision inspired the Foundation, share their personal experience of navigating Ellis’ cancer diagnosis:

Ellis taught us that you must continue to live life to the full, no matter what you are going through. He lived life with the biggest smile on his face and did everything he could to help others, even though he was going through so much himself.

During our journey with Ellis’ cancer diagnosis, we watched Ellis go through so much, and as a parent, we should never have had to do that. We met many people from all walks of life in numerous hospitals across the country. For some of those families, life had been turned upside down; divorce, bankruptcy, losing their jobs, losing their homes – all because of the pressures that come with their child being sick because of cancer.

As a parent, you will do anything to get your child better. But sadly, some battles against cancer are not won, and when have already lost so much already, you then have to say goodbye to your child – you are left feeling broken. And then you have to tell your other children that their best friend, their hero, has died.

Through our pain we have found a purpose. Ellis absolutely adored his siblings, William and Olivia, and one of his biggest fears was leaving them behind. And that’s the beating heart of the charity – supporting children who have been left behind from the loss of a sibling or parent to cancer.

We experienced first hand, the lack of support available for parents and families once a child has sadly passed away, and that’s where the Ellis Edwards Foundation will help. The charity enables children to take time away from their grief, because these children need to know it’s ok to keep smiling, keep laughing and living life – just like Ellis did through his whole cancer journey.”

How to Get Involved

The success of the Foundation relies hugely on our supporters and community, through fundraising events, sponsorship and charitable donations. We’ve had an incredible response from local businesses donating auction items and raffle prizes for the Charity Golf Day, and sponsorship of the event has meant we can provide an exceptional day and focus our efforts on fundraising for the foundation.
